They made a visit to the world’s largest passive urban project “Heidelberg Village” which is invested, designed and construed by Frey Architekten in the “Neue Bahnstadt”. This project won the “German Innovation Award Pension Home” in the year of 2015 and the “World’s Most Outstanding Passive House Design” Global Award in the year of 2016. Project Director of Frey Group of Germany, Ms. Zhilan Duan, and Project Manager, Ms. Chengfeng Zheng received the delegation warmly. 

“Heidelberg Village” is in the intersection of two landscape axis, there are tram lines on the north and a square on the west. The building is divided into two parts, an eastern and a western part, the main body is five-stories high, the west side building near the end of the square is eight blocks high. Each part is a semi-enclosed block that defines a semi-open internal public space. The project includes commercial service units on the ground floor and 162 residential units. Offering diversified floor plans ranging from single apartments to five-bedroom sizes, all of them meet barrier-free design requirements. In the project not only innovative and sustainable design concepts are being fully integrated, but it also proposes a creative operation management model to meet the needs of different users, so to achieve sustainable development together with the environment and society.

During her presentation Ms. Zhilan Duan firstly introduced the planning overview of the entire Heidelberg Village located in Heidelberg Bahnstadt. In addition, she explained the group’s ecological concept of applications and the vision of sustainable development. Afterwards the guests were invited to a tour by Ms. Duan and Ms. Zheng in order to be able to get a first-hand and on-the-spot picture of the different passive houses realized in the city. With lots of specific and detailed questions in respect to passive housing being answered, the guests shared a great time during their visit and expressed their acknowledgment for the professional reception. 

After a day full of new investigations and in-depth communication exchange, both sides showed much understanding of the development of passive houses in Germany and China. The delegation expressed their good hopes and wishes to look forward into further deepen German passive house construction technology and design experience exchange, while seeking more opportunities for future cooperation and promoting green environmental protection concepts and the development of the green energy-efficient building market in China.
