Under the theme 'Passive House worldwide!' the International Passive House Conference 2019 is the first conference held outside of Europa . It is dedicated to the worldwide energy-efficient construction and renovation industry. About 1,000 thought leaders and innovators from around the world will join the conference. 

The International Passive House Conference, is the most widely participated, the most authoritative, credible and influential International Green Building Development Conference in the world, and is known as the 'Olympic' in the field of energysaving building in the world. China(Gaobeidian) International Windoor Festival has been successfully held for four consecutive sessions since 2012, becoming one of the most influential professional doors ,windows and curtain wall expositions in the world. The 23rd International Passive House Conference and the 5th China (Gaobeidian) International Windoor Festival will be held at the same time from October 9to 11, 2019 in China International Windoor City ,which is also the first joint presentation of the International Passive House and Green Building Materials Industry. The conference will be attended by scientists , architects, engineering experts ,scholars ,industrial manufacturers and heads of relevant government departments from all over the world to discuss technical ,economic and social solutions for passive house and green building materials ,and explore the future sustainable development direction of green ultra-low energy consumption buildings.

China is building on a vast scale . This fact becomes apparent in Gaobeidian ,a city about 100km south of the capital , Beijing . Here, the Passive House district Bahnstadt with over 20 high-rise buildings and many multifamily houses is currently under construction. This  is where the Passive House Institute ,together with its partners , is inviting everyone to attend the 23rd International Passive House Conference. The theme 'Passive House worldwide'. 

The 23rd International Passive House Conference , taking place from 9-11 October 2019 in Gaobeidian ,is the first Passive House Conference held outside of Europa. The Passive House Institute in Darmstadt take the view that China ,in particular ,has recently recognised the necessity for more investments in sustainability to comply with the Paris Climate Agreement :'China is the country with the most construction work going on at the moment, and this is not being done sustainably at present. This means that we must do our utmost to ensure that the development towards sustainable construction also advances in China . That is why we are actively engaged here,' explainst Dr Wolfgang Feist . 

'Passive House worldwide'

A series of more than 20 lectures will take place on 9 an 10 October 2019 (Wednesday and Thursday) . Two of these presentations will deal with interesting residential as well as nonresidential Passive House projects in China. Two series of presentations will discuss energy efficient retrofits , including projects in Sri Lanka , Australia, the USA, Austria , Italy , Norway and Romania. Another working group will examine Passive House projects in hot climates requiring active cooling.

Numerous workshops - The Passive House Institute, together with its partners , will offer workshops on the PHPP and design PH tools . Other workshops will focus on airtightness, energy balance at the district level, energu efficient hot water systems, cooling and dehumidification ,calculation of thermal bridges, ventilation systems and windows. The two-day 'Train- The Trainer' workshop will provide valuable information to course organisers for certified Passive House designers and tradespersons. A total of 13 workshops will take place in the run-up to the Passive House Conference and afterwards. 

Participation in one of three excursions on Friday, 11 October 2019 is also included. The participants can choose between a visit to the Bahnstadt  Gaobeidian with the Passive House Museum, Passive House projects in the Capital Beijing , or a Passive House office complex in Zhuzhou, which is about 30km from Gaobeidian. The Bahnstadt Gaobeidian is being built based on the model of the Bahnstadt Heidelberg(Germany). After completion ,it will be the largest Passive House residential area in the world. The first construction phase with about 330,000 square meters of living space will have been completed by the time of the Passive House Conference. 

'We are going to China with great expectations. As usual, the conference programme will include many substantiated presentations bu international speakers and intensive workshops on specific and relevant tasks. Added to this ,will be the comprehensive experiences gained with the construction of Passive House buildings in China ,which is taking place there under completely diffrent conditions to those in Europe. This is a significant opportunity to intensify our efforts for global improvement of building standards and thus contribute significantly towards climate protection', expains Dr Wolfgang Feist. 

In the light of the rapid and widespread uptake of Passive House buildings and components in China ,now is the perfect time to take the world's most popular and prestigious Passive House Conference overseas-the Passive House Standard is international after all.Moreover, 'Each new building in China brings with it an additional demand for energy for heating and cooling , therefore it is very gratifying that serious efforts are being made in China to radically improve the energy efficiency of buildings. There is still a chance of meeting the climate protection objectives,' explained Professor Feist. 

China's rapid urbanisation has resulted in a need for new construction in its cities. In order to meet this demand while simulaneously making strides to reign in CO2 emissions as promissed as part of the Paris Agreement, energy efficient building practices are a necessity. Dr Berthold Kaufmann, who is responsible for many large-scale Passive House projects in China ,agrees. He explains, ' We are significantly improve the standard of buildings in China using the Passive House Standard because a lot of new construction activity is currently taking place there. This only makes sense if these new buildings consume less energy. '

China's improvement efforts are indeed impressive. In the past 10 years, over1.1 million square meters of floor area have been certified to the Passive House Standard in China. By the end of August, another 300,000 square meters are expected to be certified, showing how quickly this number is growing. 

One project that is especially exciting is the nearly finished Gaobeidian Bahnstadt. Upon completion ,this new district which was inspired by the Bahnstadt in Heidelberg , will become the largest Passive House residential area in the world . It will be made up of a total of 30 high-rise buildings and multi-family houses as well as several single-family houses constructed to the Passive House Standard, resulting in a floor area of over a million square meters. The Gaobeidian Bahnstadt is a symbol of the worldwide uptake of the Passive House Standard. For this reason, the city of Gaobeidian was the perfect candidate for the location for the 23rd International Passive House Conference. After the conclusion of the two-day lectures and workshops ,participants have the opportunity to visit this Passive House project.
