Nanchang Passive House Kindergarten

Nanchang Honggu Yipin Kindergarten, a representative passive- house in China, as the first passive-house kindergarten in Jiangxi, is going to be the first passive-house kindergarten certified by German Passive House Institute (PHI) in regions where is hot in summer and cold in winter in China.

In this project, WFP Architekten not only as the designer, but also plays a role of connection between Party A (Jiangxi Zhongsen Group), construction side (Beijing Residential Building Design Institute) and PHI. And is get involved in the whole process, includes design, construction and certifying, promoting the implementation and practice of passive house techs in China.

Building

The project is located in the north of Zhongsen International Garden, close by the main street, Huangjiahu East Road.  But land use standards and land shape are limited, in order to reach the demand of teaching and activities for 12 classes, building is designed in the triangle shape along the edge of the base land and, the building’s south side with the maximum width allowed. All classrooms are centralized making management more convenient. Outdoor playground is in regular shape and, can achieve the demand of large activity events.

With the concern of kinds’ psychological demand, fairytale atmosphere is created by including elements like cottage, spire crowned tower and so on. Colorful windows create broad image space to kids and, making the kindergarten outstanding in the European style residential community.

The roof is equipped with solar panels, and also a playground, which not only provides space for kids for playing, but also education on sustainable buildings. Meanwhile, with the basic function, the roof provides shading in summer.

During the process of design, several seminars were hold, including discussion with children education experts on the functions and reasonability, negotiation with Party A on economic reasonability, communication with German passive house experts on fence structure and heating technology, etc..
